What the test does
The Galleri test analyzes cell-free DNA in the blood for patterns associated with cancer. When a signal is present, the report also predicts the part of the body it most likely came from, which gives a customer and their healthcare provider a starting point for follow-up rather than a broad search.

The Galleri test is a screening test, not a diagnostic test. It detects a cancer signal, not cancer itself. A result of “Cancer Signal Detected” requires confirmatory diagnostic testing by a healthcare provider, and a result of “No Cancer Signal Detected” does not rule out cancer. The Galleri test is designed to complement mammograms, colonoscopies, Pap tests, PSA testing and low-dose CT scans, and customers should continue routine screening recommended by their provider regardless of their Galleri test result.

The Galleri test is recommended for adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those age 50 and older. It is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, 21 years old or younger, or undergoing active cancer treatment.

Customers can book online or walk in. A trained medical assistant reviews the consent form, collects the sample and ships it immediately to GRAIL’s laboratory. Results are typically available about two weeks after the sample reaches the lab and are delivered through the location’s secure portal. Every result arrives with instructions to review it with a healthcare provider, and results that detect a cancer signal follow a defined support process that includes GRAIL’s patient advocate resources.
